Where can I use the internet?

There is an internet café a short distance from the house charging 1500 riel (approx. US40c) per hour. This has the full Microsoft Office package, as well as Skype and other programs. You can also make reasonably priced overseas calls. Please note the internet is not fast!

    What will I learn?

Apart from learning to teach English, Khmer language, culture, history and current affairs and teacher training are all provided when you first arrive in Phnom Penh. This is then followed by optional Khmer language training throughout your time at the school.

    Who will I be teaching?

Each class has up to 20 students aged 13 and above. The majority of students are young adults. Students pay a small fee to study at the school, in the knowledge that the profits go to the rural NGO Cambodian Rural Development Team (CDRT).

    What should I wear?

Clothing that covers your shoulders and knees is preferred in Cambodia. To teach, smart casual clothing that covers your shoulders and knees is required, no need for ties, just have a professional appearance.

What should I bring with me?

You can buy almost anything in Phnom Penh, but if you have them you might find the following useful: laptop, USB flash drive/memory stick, bicycle and/ or motorbike helmet (about US$15 in Phnom Penh, but low quality), basic first aid kit, including needle kit if traveling to rural areas, reading books, magazines, DVDs, games, extra teaching materials including dictionaries/ photo dictionaries, decorations for the house and school (e.g. maps, pictures and posters) and spare passport photos.

What type of visa do I require?

To teach at the school and be able to extend you visa for more than one month, you will need to purchase a Type "E" Business visa on arrival. You will require two passport photos to obtain your visa, as well as US$25. Once your position is confirmed with us, we will email you a “Confirmation of Placement” letter to print off and present on arrival with your passport.

If you are arriving by land, it is easiest if you can arrange a Type "E" Business visa at a Cambodian embassy before you come. This is because there can be some visa scams at some border crossings, which may complicate things for you.

The approximate costs of extending your business Visa during the first month are:

    for 1 month US$41

    for 3 months US$71

    for 6 months US$140

    for 1 year US$260

Please note: only the 6 month and 1 year visas are re-entry visas (allow you to leave and re-enter Cambodia without purchasing a new visa).

What happens when I arrive in Phnom Penh?

A staff member from the school will come and collect you (armed with a sign with you name on it!) whether arriving by air, land or water. Please let us know your arrival details as soon as you have them confirmed.
